What are the steps to homeownership?
If you don’t know if homeownership is right for you, or you’re unsure how or where to start the homebuying process, you’ve come to the right place. Housing Channel has guided thousands of first-time homebuyers through the steps to successful homeownership, and we’re ready to help you start (and finish!) your homebuying journey.
In today’s competitive homebuying market, homeownership may seem like an impossible dream. But don’t rule yourself out before you even begin—instead, educate yourself on the homebuying process and learn more about what it takes to own your own home. Whether it’s understanding credit scores, securing down payment assistance, working with a realtor, or navigating insurance and inspections, we can help you take the overwhelm out of the steps to homeownership with our free, HUD-certified counseling and classes led by expert housing advisors:
STEP ONE: Once you’ve attended our Is Your Credit Ready Workshop, schedule a one-on-one counseling session (in English or in Spanish) to learn more about Housing Channel services and recommended action items.
STEP TWO: Is Your Credit Ready Workshop
Our financial literacy class will help you understand and improve your credit score, as well as learn more about how saving and budgeting can help you achieve your life goals, such as homeownership, education, and retirement.
STEP THREE: Homebuyer Orientation
This in-person or virtual session, held weeknights and weekday mornings, will provide an overview of the homebuying process for first-time homebuyers, as well as an introduction to local down payment assistance programs and their eligibility requirements.
STEP FOUR: Homebuyer Workshop
The grand finale of our homebuyer education program is the Homebuyer Workshop, an information-packed all-day seminar (lunch provided) covering a range of homebuyer topics, such as mortgages, tips on shopping for the right home for you, and insurance and inspections.
